IT – The Heart and Soul of Health Informatics
By Dr. Scott Vinci, Chiropractic Physician, Healthcare Consultant, CDI
Two weeks ago, I attended an Interprofessional Informatics Conference hosted by Barnabas Health and Rutgers Nursing School. In my 28 years of healthcare practice and an equal amount of time as a “closet computer geek”, I have never been more convinced that Information Technology and Informatics will transform the Healthcare landscape.
In life as in business, the one and only true constant – is change. That has never been more accurate then in todays Healthcare. Things like Meaningful Use, ICD-10, PQRS as well as ACO’s have dominated the spotlight in Healthcare in a push to drive better health outcomes. The platform for organizational change is an attempt to improve quality. In the Healthcare field, its structure, process and outcomes that will eventually determine the level of quality attainable.
Increasing volumes of data along with analytics promise to shape the future of Healthcare like never before. When outcomes are analyzed and best practice protocols are implemented, everyone from patient to stakeholder wins. But the back-bone (pun intended) of any successful transformation to excellence in the Healthcare field is founded on a dependable and robust Health Information System combined with a reliable, trusted and dedicated IT partner. In an ever-changing environment requiring more and more functionality by the day, a strategic IT partnership will ensure the success and outcomes necessary to overcome the challenges that lay ahead.
